Though famous for its apples, Washington is home to many other fruit varieties including Sour and Sweet cherries, pears, peaches, nectarines, and grapes. The warm arid climate and rich volcanic soils make Washington State the perfect conditions for fruit production. There are over 225,000 acres of orchards located in Eastern Washington, which produce over 10 billion apples annually. In fact, if you took all of the apples grown in Washington each year and set them side by side, they would circle the earth 12 times.
